The Head Coach Interview Process

The Ravens are searching for a new coach for the first time since nearly 20 years.

Baltimore fired John Harbaugh on Tuesday, ending an 18-year career that saw him win a Super Bowl and make 12 playoffs appearances.

The Ravens are one of seven teams currently filling the vacancy of a head coach.

The Ravens can request interviews starting Wednesday with any candidates who are not employed by a current team, or whose teams did not make the playoffs. Candidates who play for teams that have a bye in the first round (Seahawks, Broncos), must be interviewed before Wild Card Weekend.

Candidates who do not have a team at the moment are excluded from the interviews. Baltimore may conduct in-person interviews after the divisional round.

The Ravens have a week between the end of the conference championships and the Super Bowl to interview candidates. The Ravens will not be able to contact candidates who are competing in the Super Bowl until after the Super Bowl.

A coach who is currently coaching a team cannot sign or agree to a contract before the season has ended.

The Ravens also have to follow the Rooney Rule. This rule stipulates that a team looking for a new coach must interview at least two candidates from outside, who are either minorities or women.
