Roundtable Reactions – Ravens lose to Steelers and miss out on playoffs

Baltimore Ravens’ loss to Pittsburgh Steelers was heartbreaking on Sunday evening. Rookie kicker Tyler Loop missed a field goal that would have won the game. Here are some instant reactions by the Baltimore Beatdown staff.

I’m with you. This is the only possible ending to the Ravens season that you could list for an hour. The Ravens were in a winning position after a ridiculous fourth-quarter back-and forth, with three miracle plays from the Ravens’ offense. It didn’t work out as planned, just like their entire season. In the biggest moment in his life, Loop went wide right and the Ravens were sent home. Baltimore needs to ask some hard questions. – Nikhil Mehta

This team got what they deserved. This was a Super Bowl favorite team who never recovered after a humiliating blown lead in Week 1 against the Bills. Pass rush and offensive lines, which were obvious weaknesses in the offseason of last year, were not addressed properly and became costly weaknesses all season. At this point it’s hard to imagine John Harbaugh returning and the current coaching staff, but I won’t be surprised if this offseason there are only minor changes. I do, however, believe that now is the time to try out something new. In order to be able to address the team’s holes, the Ravens must reach a new contract with Lamar Jackson. They also have a list of key players who will soon become free agents. This is going to be an important offseason in the history of this franchise. Mark Myers

The Ravens looked far superior despite the referees’ best efforts. It was obvious going into the game that it would be close, but it was a question of how things would unfold. Although the Ravens were able to run the ball well, they still appeared out of place in obvious passing situations. Monken must run the ball in the second half and get Jackson into a rhythm using the short passing game. Pittsburgh’s offensive isn’t good without D.K. Metcalf. Zach Orr must focus on the Steelers’ tight ends and running backs. I expect a heavy dose Henry in the second, but Baltimore will need to avoid that dreaded turn over. Dustin Cox

Baltimore’s season began with heartbreak and ended the same way. This season was a disappointment, and that is an understatement. Lamar Jackson, the Ravens and their team fought hard and made a lot of great plays. Unfortunately, just when the Ravens’ offense was humming along, their defense crumbled. It should never have come to the point where you needed your rookie kicker to make it to the playoffs. Super Bowl-bound teams often finish 8-9. This offseason, there will be many changes. – Stephen Bopst

This team finished where it should. This team finished below.500, and was eliminated from the playoffs. It was an offensive unit that had a terrible coach, a line in the bottom five, and was inconsistent all season. The defense was toothless, had no pass rush and could not make the play that was needed in crucial games. This team, despite starting the season perhaps as the number one Super Bowl favourite, was never good enough to make it into the playoffs or even championship level.

We are now entering one of the most important offseasons ever in franchise history. Will John Harbaugh remain or leave? Will Lamar Jackson get a new contract or be traded? The Ravens have a lot of holes on their roster. Can they reset it? There will be many headlines about nothing during the long and dramatic offseason until the Jackson issue is resolved. Harbaugh’s future is likely to be known in the next 48-hours. Onto 2026. – Zach Canter

It was a cruel end to a season that has been chaotic and painful for Jackson. For the second year in a row, his teammates let him down. The writing was on wall from the penalties that were committed throughout the game, to the defense giving up three touchdowns in the second half to an offensive unit that had been anemic the previous six quarters. The Ravens lost despite Jackson’s repeated Superman cape waves in the fourth-quarter. It was hard to watch but it felt like the team deserved it this year. This offseason could be the most pivotal since Jackson’s arrival in 2018. It may finally lead to John Harbaugh being fired by the Ravens. The cynic inside me doesn’t believe that changes will happen. I hope I am wrong. Mark Myers
