Final Ravens vs. Rams injury report: Lamar Jackson is ruled out and two starters in secondary return

The Baltimore Ravens have ruled out Lamar Jackson, their star quarterback, for the second week in row. Cooper Rush will start Sunday’s game against Los Angeles Rams.

Jackson suffered a hamstring strain that would have kept him out for several games.

In Week 5, with Rush at the helm, Baltimore’s offense was unable to score more than 10 points or gain 207 yards despite a fierce Texans defence. The Rams will face a similar challenge on Sunday. However, their defense is not as strong as Houston’s.

As expected, Roquan Smith has also been ruled out. He is also nursing a hamstring and hopes to return after the bye.

The Ravens’ fans received some good news Friday, as both All-Pro defensivebacks Kyle Hamilton (who missed last week’s game) and Marlon Hushprey were taken off the injury list. Both will be ready to play on Sunday after completing full practices on both Thursday and Friday. This is a huge boost for Baltimore’s defense. Hamilton has been Baltimore’s best defender so far this season, and although Humphrey is struggling, the team prefers to have him out on the field.

The injury reports for Ronnie Stanley and Roger Rosengarten as well as Joe Noteboom, offensive tackles, were also removed. Stanley tried to play through a ankle injury in week 5, but Noteboom replaced him during the game. Noteboom suffered an ankle injury, while Rosengarten injured his knee. The team’s depth in tackles was seriously questioned after all three players were only limited on Wednesday. However, they participated fully in the two last practices and are now ready for the game.

The Ravens have released their final injury designations against the Rams in Week 6.

Questionable

  • WR Zay Flowers

  • CB Chidobe Awuzie (hamstring)

  • QB Lamar Jackson

  • OL Emery Jones

  • FB Patrick Ricard, (calf)

  • ILB Roquan (hamstring) Smith

  • WR Devontez Walker (oblique)

Flowers has been a limited player in practice this week. Fans can therefore be optimistic that he will play on Sunday. In Week 5, the Ravens’ top receiver, with Rush at the center, continued to play in this role. He had five receptions for the team and 72 yards of receiving yardage – nearly 35% of their total offense’s yardage.

Baltimore’s absences from practice were expected. A few players who had been sidelined made some progress this week. Awuzie, who returned to practice Friday, should be able to return after the Ravens Week 7 Bye. Patrick Ricard may have a chance to return in a similar time frame, as he practiced for the first week since mid-August. However, the Ravens are cautious about their veteran fullback. The Ravens will be cautious with their veteran fullback, who has already suffered a setback in his recovery from the initial calf strain.

The Ravens have kept Emery Jones on their non-football injuries list until next week, despite the fact that he has had a full practice week and is close to making his NFL debut.

The Ravens’ injury report for Week 6 only had one negative update: Devontez Walker was downgraded in his practice status. He had limited practice on Wednesday and Friday, but did not attend the session.

Rams have a significantly better health status than Ravens going into Week 6. The Rams have only two players who are expected to be absent and two other players listed as questionable.

Questionable

  • WR Tutu Atwell

  • TE Colby Parkins

  • OT Rob Havenstein (ankle)

  • ILB Omar Speights

Although Havenstein and Speights both start, neither is among the five most important players of their respective units. Warren McClendon Jr. is likely to replace Havenstein as right tackle. Troy Reeder may take over Speights’s snaps.

Atwell and Parkins don’t draw many targets. Their absence is unlikely to slow down a Rams offense that is blazing against the Ravens bottom-ranked defense.
