If it’s one thing but not another, as the saying goes.
On Sunday, the Ravens’ beleaguered defensive unit stepped up to the challenge of the Los Angeles Rams and Derrick Henry led the running game.
Los Angeles Rams (17-3) beat the Ravens (1-4) 17-3 despite this formula being usually a winning one. The Ravens lost two consecutive games at home, by a combined total of 61-13.
The mistake-prone offense was to blame this time. It sputtered even though it had rushed for 179 yards and held the ball nearly 38 minutes.
Tyler Huntley, the backup quarterback, took over in the fourth quarter after Cooper Rush finished the game with 72 yards, an interception, and was relieved of his duties by Lamar Jackson.
The offense, however, turned the ball over a total of three times. Rush also lost a fumble, and wide receiver Zay Flower was involved in a second one.
Bennett Conlin, a reporter for The Baltimore Sun, wrote : “The Ravens backup quarterback struggled again to run the offense effectively and that cost Baltimore.” Jackson’s best qualities are everywhere. He’s never run and passed like this in the NFL. Rush’s best trait Sunday? His hard count. Todd Monken has a limited amount of resources to work with. “Nobody on either side picked up the slack.”
Tavius Robinson, an outside linebacker, suffered a fractured foot. Robinson’s injury happened four days after Ravens outside linebacker Odafe Oweh was traded to Los Angeles Chargers. Ronnie Stanley, the left tackle who had been out for a week with an ankle injury, returned to play but didn’t finish.
