Simpson’s attitude remained unchanged when Teddye Buchanan, a rookie, took over Trenton Simpson as the starter early in this season.
Simpson is back in the spotlight after Buchanan’s season ending knee injury.
The Ravens are going to rely on their third-year linebacker against the New England Patriots (11-3), and also down the stretch, as they attempt to make it into the playoffs. Baltimore’s defensive unit is in a good place and can’t afford to make a mistake.
“I have a lot of confidence in him.” Roquan said, “I know he will do great things.” I know he is eager to get the chance to play. He played well last week despite having barely any practice reps.
Simpson took over for Buchanan, who was injured early in the week in Cincinnati. He played 35 defensive snaps. Simpson made nine tackles despite limited practice time with the first team defense.
Simpson had not played more than 10 snaps in the last two weeks when Smith was injured. Zach Orr, the defensive coordinator at the time, said that Simpson’s two best games were when he had 1.5 sacks as well as 19 tackles.
“I respect the guy because even when things didn’t go his way, he always stood up for Teddye and the team. He did whatever was required of him.” Smith said that he always showed up, and he did his best to get the reps. “The guy never wavered despite all that he has been through.”
Simpson has had a difficult three years. A third-round selection from Clemson, Simpson is extremely athletic and hard-working. However, he has not yet put everything together. Simpson also lost the starting position at the end of last season to veterans Malik Harrison, Chris Board.
Is the third time the charm?
Orr stated, “He just seems more comfortable.” Trent was not slandered by the decision to go with Teddye. I thought that Teddye played just as well. But I see [Simpson] concentrating and taking notes. He is in command. He is more vocal and a physical, strong guy. He is running and hitting. Will there be some mistakes? Everybody makes mistakes. Even our best players can make mistakes. But he has minimized them a great deal. “That’s why I have confidence.”
