Baltimore Ravens Offensive Coordinator Todd Monken is a sought-after candidate for NFL head coaching vacancies, reportedly interviewing with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Chicago Bears this week. While these opportunities come at a crucial point in the Ravens’ playoff run, Monken has assured fans that his focus remains squarely on Sunday’s Divisional Round matchup against the Buffalo Bills.
During his weekly media availability, Monken addressed concerns from fans about the timing of his interviews and his ability to stay focused on the task at hand.
“Any of the work that I needed to do for any interviews that were going to come up during the season, I did in the offseason,” Monken said. “All of my focus last week was on the Steelers, and all of my focus this week is on the Bills. I love the job I have – I really do, and I have a great job here.”
Monken emphasized that while the timing is not ideal, his attention has been fully on game-planning for Buffalo.
Monken expressed frustration with the system, which forces playoff coaches to juggle interviews during the most critical time of the season. When asked if he would prefer a rule change, Monken was realistic about the complexities involved.
“I don’t think there’s any easy way, or they’d already be doing it,” he said. “It is what it is. It’s like trying to figure out things … They’ve been trying to figure it out. There’s no easy solution, so it is what it is.”
Monken’s impact on the Ravens’ offense this season has been transformative. In his first year in Baltimore, he’s helped Lamar Jackson deliver an MVP-caliber season, guiding the league’s top-ranked offense. Under his direction, the Ravens have excelled in both the passing and rushing game, showcasing the kind of versatility that NFL teams covet in a head coach.
While Monken’s head coaching aspirations are a natural progression for a coach of his caliber, his commitment to the Ravens is clear. As Baltimore prepares for a high-stakes matchup against Buffalo, Monken’s leadership will be critical in crafting a game plan capable of toppling the Bills.
What do you think, Ravens fans? Should the NFL adjust its rules to avoid these mid-playoff distractions, or is this just part of the job? Let us know in the comments!
