Tyler Linderbaum, one of the NFL’s best centers, will be paid accordingly this offseason.
Linderbaum was ranked as the No.4 player on Austin Gayle’s list of the top 40 players set to hit free agency. He is currently in his final year of a rookie contract. Austin Gayle, The Ringer’s list for the top 40 players who will be free agents was ranked No.
Gayle wrote that “Linderbaum is a highly sought-after center because of his excellent movement, particularly as a blocker for running.” He is a gifted athlete who has foot speed and balance, which are uncommon at his position. He is able to pull, scoop and reach with his hands, and he’s lightning fast to get up to the second-level on his feet. His leverage and positioning are enough to beat linebackers and safety.
He’s also a threat when blocking in front screens and moving around in space. Linderbaum has been named to his third straight Pro Bowl, and is ranked eighth among all qualifying centers on PFF’s run blocking grade each year of his career.
The Ravens did not pick up Linderbaum’s fifth-year contract option. However, General Manager Eric DeCosta has made it clear the team wants to sign him to an extension.
Gayle wrote: “I expect Baltimore to get a deal with Linderbaum before March. But until then, he deserves a high ranking on this list.”
The Ravens’ other player ranked was tight end Isaiah Likely, who was ranked No. 27.
Gayle wrote: “Likely, a rare athlete at only 25, hasn’t shown the consistency that would have led to the multi-year contract extension most expected.” Baltimore re-signed veteran tight end Mark Andrews, 30, to a 3-year, $39.3-million extension in early December. This could be a sign that Likely is ready to test the market.
