The former GM doesn’t think Ravens will be sellers at the trade deadline under any circumstances

Former GM Don’t Think Ravens will be sellers at trade deadline

The deadline for trading on November 4 is less than two weeks off. Analysts continue to speculate who will be the buyers and sellers and which players may be available.

Ravens’ general consensus seems to be that they are buyers – for the time being – and would like to add an interior defensive lineman or edge rusher.

Mike Tannenbaum, ESPN analyst and ex-general manager, believes that it is unlikely that big-name players would be traded.

Tannenbaum said to The Baltimore Banner’s Jonas Shaffer, “I don’t think that many players will be traded as Maxx Crosby [Raiders defensive lineman].” If you are eliminated or look like you will be eliminated in the same way as the Raiders, and you can get multiple draft picks for him, then I think it’s worth considering. What you usually see in the NFL are a few more depth [acquisitions] – the extra corner, extra safety and things like that. To me, I do not think we will see any blockbuster deals.”

An assistant general manager currently in the position expressed a similar view.

The assistant GM of Fox Sports, Ralph Vacchiano said: “Right Now my feeling is that [the media] is expecting more [from the trading] deadline than is the rest [of the league].”

Eric DeCosta, since he became general manager in 2019, has been aggressive during the trade deadline. The Ravens will not have a winning record at the trade deadline, as they did in the past.

Shaffer thinks the Ravens will be in the “sellers’ category if they lose the next two games. They play the Chicago Bears at home on Sunday, and the Miami Dolphins at Miami next Thursday.

Tannenbaum does not see the Ravens as sellers, even if their record drops to 1-7.

“I’m sure [every team] will have questions, right?” Tannenbaum said. “I believe Buffalo’s defensive unit has many questions. Are the Colts for real? We’ll see. Kansas City is playing better but in a system with a salary-cap, every team has its strengths and weaknesses. The Ravens have many young, good defensive players. They’ve been slow to start the last two seasons for whatever reason. Evidently, last year they made a turnaround. I believe we have a long road ahead.

If John Harbaugh was your coach, and Lamar Jackson your quarterback, it’s hard to imagine that you would be eliminated from any season. Just because you are starting in a position of strength.
