Teddye Buchanan’s promising rookie season ended Sunday in Cincinnati. Head Coach John Harbaugh announced Monday that Buchanan suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
He fell on a play that was not contact while covering a kick. Harbaugh hopes that he will be ready for next year’s camp.
Buchanan has 93 tackles, which is second most on the team after Roquan Smith’s (114).
Buchanan, a fourth-round draft pick from Cal who had played only one year of college football in the top tier at Cal, was able to do it. Buchanan started 13 out of 14 games, and played 69% defensive snaps.
“Teddye was a star. Harbaugh stated that it was a lot of fun to watch his growth as a defensive player and on special teams. “Nobody is more into it than he. He is just amazing. “It’s unfortunate, disappointing and will be a part of his future story.”
Trenton Simpson, a third-year linebacker, was the Ravens’ choice after Buchanan suffered an injury. Simpson responded with nine tackles versus the Bengals.
Simpson is the Ravens fifth-highest rated defensive player according to Pro Football Focus. Harbaugh stated that he is “really unconcerned” about the situation.
Harbaugh stated that Trent had played well and has been practicing hard. “Every game he has played, he has done well.” Trenton will build on Teddye and Trenton’s performances.
