Teddye Buchanan did not imagine himself as a Ravens rookie two years ago.
He was a two-star prospect out of high-school, and he played at Cal-Davis. This school has only produced one NFL draft pick in the last decade. Buchanan was still unsure about his NFL future even after transferring from Cal to Cal last year.
He’s now playing with Roquan, chasing Lamar Jackson in practice, and stalking Josh Allen during “Sunday Night Football.”
Buchanan is enjoying his ride, despite the fact that he knows he has risen fast and far.
Buchanan, who made his first NFL appearance in the Ravens 41-17 win over the Cleveland Browns, said: “Before each game I take a minute to appreciate it and take it all in.” “Now that I am here, everything is about performance and helping the team to win.”
Buchanan is the first Ravens Day 3 selection to start in defense for the Ravens within the first two games of his career since 2006 when Dawan Landry, a fifth-round pick at safety, started.
Landry, a rookie, made five interceptions and recalls the feeling of joining a defense with Ed Reed, Ray Lewis and Terrell Suggs. Haloti Ngata was also part of that group, as were Bart Scott and Chris McAlister.
Landry told a reporter by phone that he was “starstruck” until he put on the padding. “I remember my first padded training. Rex Ryan, the defensive coordinator at the time, put his arm around my shoulder and told me: “You’re going to be practicing with starters.” Do what you want. When I was able to hold my own I thought, “OK, I’m here. I’m a member.”
“Those are moments you will remember. Teddye probably feels the same. Ed Reed and all the veterans took me under their wings, treated me as a little sibling. Once they arrived, I was able to see how they played the game and I quickly picked it up. Teddye’s only piece of advice is to enjoy the moment, accept constructive criticism and not make the same mistakes twice. “I’m sure that playing with guys such as ‘Ro,’ Kyle Hamilton, [Nnamdi] Madubuike, is only helping him to grow.”
