Two key Ravens defenders returned to the field on Tuesday. Outside linebacker Tavius Washington and safety Ar’Darius Robinson both practiced.
The Ravens (6-6), who are heading into a five game stretch in December/January that will determine if they win the AFC North title for a third consecutive year and make it to the playoffs, will begin to ramp up their efforts.
Robinson has been out of action since Week 6, when he suffered a foot injury against the Los Angeles Rams. His 21-day return window has opened. At that time, he had not missed a single game or practice in his entire career.
Robinson, a rugged defender who excelled against the run and had 17 tackles to his name in the Ravens first six games of the season, will be able to strengthen Baltimore’s defense.
David Ojabo and Mike Green got more snaps as a result of his departure. After Robinson’s injury, the Ravens traded for Dre’Mont Jones and relied on Carl Lawson last week.
Washington played a crucial role in Baltimore’s defensive turnaround when he was introduced to the starting lineup last season. Washington, despite the Ravens’ first-round selection of safety Malaki Starks, was poised to be a major player in Baltimore’s defensive secondary until he suffered an Achilles tendon tear in May. This sent him to the Reserve/Physically Incapable to Perform List.
In the early part of this season, his absence forced Kyle Hamilton into a more conventional role. This led to Alohi Gillman being traded by the Ravens. Hamilton was able to get closer to the line-of-scrimmage. This had a positive impact on the rest the defense.
Washington could return to the game at either safety or slot cornerback. He has played both positions before.
