It didn’t take very long. John Harbaugh, the former Baltimore Ravens’ head coach, is finalizing an agreement to become the next head coach of New York Giants. Here are the first reactions of Baltimore Beatdown staff!
It is not surprising that the Maras did everything they could to get John Harbaugh back. New York needed someone with the right pedigree after Brian Daboll’s inconsistent tenure. The team will hope that he can quickly improve the roster to bring Big Blue back into relevance.
Harbaugh will be able achieve the first goal if he has a good staff. The Giants roster isn’t in the best shape but there are a few stars – Malik Nabers and Dexter Lawrence – along with a lot of young talent. I can see Harbaugh making the most of this group immediately, at least during the regular season. Making the playoffs is not a given, especially with an NFC which has become very, very competitive. – Nikhil Mehta
Harbaugh joining the Giants would be a great move for everyone involved. Since their last Super Bowl in 2010, the Giants have lost money, largely due to poor decision-making and instability. Harbaugh is a proven head coach who has a winning record. He can make an immediate difference and improve the culture. Harbaugh will have a chance to start over and get a new group of players in a completely new division and conference. The Ravens won’t face the Giants until 2028. They don’t need to deal with their long-time coach anytime soon. – Frank Platko
The Giants made a wise choice. Harbaugh has had his tenure in Baltimore come to an end, but a new start with a different team will be beneficial for him. Harbaugh should have his strengths on display for a New York squad that needs consistency and culture improvement. Harbaugh will be welcomed by the fans of the team who have struggled for the last decade to produce winning seasons. It may be that being competitive or having a chance at the playoffs is not enough in the Lamar Jackson age for the Ravens, but it will be an enormous step up in New York. Dustin Cox
Steve Bisciotti said to the media that John Harbaugh had specifically asked him which team he would join. The Giants were the first to come into mind. This move was not surprising. Both parties are happy with the decision. Harbaugh has had a higher floor than the Giants ceiling in the last 10-15 years. Harbaugh is the perfect coach to instill in them a winning mindset and leadership. The team has exciting pieces both on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. They also have draft capital, salary cap flexibility and a lot of other resources to make a significant improvement as soon as the offseason starts. Todd Monken, as expected, is expected to be Harbaugh’s offensive coordinator. This should prove to be a huge help. I hope that Harbaugh has a successful season. Mark Myers
