Roundtable Reactions: Ravens trade for EDGE Dre’Mont Jones

The Ravens have acquired Dre’Mont, a veteran edge rusher from the Titans. In exchange for what could be a fourth-round conditional pick in the fifth round. Here are the most recent reactions from Baltimore Beatdown staff.

This is an example of the right player at the right price. Jones is a proven commodity off the edge and has the size to move inside in some situations for pass-rushing. He’s been a reliable player against the run and pass throughout his career and will immediately add depth to Baltimore’s outside-linebacker room. Eric DeCosta can still make another move by tomorrow’s deadline. A Day 3 selection is a great price for an experienced edge rusher. Jones is not the season-changing player that fans were hoping for but he will help a depleted defense. – Nikhil Mehta

DeCosta makes a deal without sending defensive talent in the opposite direction, this time bringing a productive rusher into a unit that desperately needs to put pressure on opposing QBs. The veteran will provide a boost to the Ravens front-seven, and hopefully this is not the final move before tomorrow’s deadline. – Mark Myers

The ravens did exactly what they needed to during their mini-bye. Dremont Jones may not be a huge splash, but he will fill exactly the role that the ravens require for just a conditional 5th round pick. He is a competent pass rusher, who will not take over the game. However, he could lead the limited group in pressures and sacks by the end of the season. He relieves pressure from Mike Green and Kyle Van Noy, who have taken a lot of snaps in the last two or three weeks. He should allow Kyle Hamilton to play a bit less in the box, as this is better for Hamilton’s long-term health.

This is an excellent C+ swing, which is exactly what the Ravens need, but it’s not a huge needle mover. – Zach Canter

The Ravens desperately needed help on their defensive line. Dre’Mont Jones will give the Ravens some much-needed juice to help them against both run and pass. The Ravens are one of the worst defensive teams in the NFL and need to try another move at the interior of their defensive line. – Stephen Bopst

The Ravens desperately needed defensive help and their edge rusher unit is very thin. Dre’Mont Jones is a solid veteran player, but not flashy. A trade to get him makes sense. It should also have a positive effect. Jones will relieve some of the pressure on Mike Green and Kyle Van Noy, and keep them more fresh. In his career, Jones has averaged 3.5-6.5 total sacks per season. He already has 4.5 through nine games of 2025. A Ravens defense that has struggled to pressure quarterbacks this year will benefit from any pass rusher juice. – Frank Platko

After trading Odafe Oweh, and Tavius Robinson being injured for an undetermined period of time, the Ravens were desperate to add an edge rusher. The Ravens added veteran Carl Lawson as a member of the practice squad but another move was necessary to strengthen the unit. Jones may not be a great edge rusher, but he’ll give Baltimore’s defense another player who can get after the quarterback. This will hopefully reduce Mike Green’s play time, and allow him to become the pass-rush specialist that he was touted for in the draft. Jones can also rush the passer from the interior, like Za’Darius Smith or Pernell McPhee did for the Ravens. Baltimore still needs to find a quality cornerback and defensive line player after trading Jaire Alexander. I don’t expect Eric DeCosta will be finished working the phone before the deadline.
