Return dates for Ravens injured players updated

After their bye week in Week 7, the Baltimore Ravens expect to be much healthier with Lamar Jackson, and Roquann Smith expected to both return in Week 8

This week, the status of other Ravens who were injured was also updated. The latest update on the return dates is below:

OLB Tavius Robinson

Robinson broke his foot against the Rams on Sunday, but John Harbaugh announced on Monday that this would not be the end of his season. It will take six to eight weeks to recover, which is “very similar” in length to the recovery period for Isaiah Likely, who suffered a broken foot during training camp.

Robinson is likely to be placed on the injured reserve list before Baltimore’s game next week, which will keep him out of action until at least Week 12. Robinson could practice before the Ravens play the Bengals in Week 13 on Thanksgiving, but they will not rush his return.

After a year of clear growth, the third-year linebacker was praised by the coaching staff for his offseason performance. Robinson, despite a significant increase of playing time following Kyle Van Noy’s injury hasn’t had a consistent effect as a run or pass defender. The Ravens must still find a replacement for his snaps, and hope that he will be part of the late-season playoff push.

OLB Adisa Isaac

Isaac sustained a dislocated arm in the preseason, which required surgery. He was placed on the injured reserve and given a return designation prior to final roster cuts. This guaranteed an absence of four games. He was eligible to resume practice in Week 5 but still needs at least one month to be back on the field.

Harbaugh said this week that “[Isaac]’s year is not over.” “They are talking about Isaac possibly being in mid-November or even late November.”

Isaac, unlike Robinson, cannot be expected take on a major role upon his return. By the time the 2024 third-rounder returns to the field, he will have already missed a large part of his rookie season and at least half of the second. Isaac will have to quickly step up to the plate, especially if Robinson returns before him, and more so if they do not make any major additions to their offensive line before the deadline.

FB Patrick Ricard

In recent weeks, Harbaugh shed some light on Ricard’s injury. The Ravens had originally expected a two to three week absence from the veteran fullback. However, a setback delayed him by a few weeks. He returned to the practice field last week but was still ruled ineligible for the Rams game. Harbaugh said on Monday that Ricard has recovered from his injury, but still needs to work towards being game-ready.

Harbaugh said that it was a simple matter of feeling comfortable with his strength level and ability to perform. It’s about him feeling confident that he’ll be able to push himself to the limit during practice, and be able to run and change directions, and have power to people. It’s up to him.”

This last comment implies that Ricard is fully cleared to play, but still has some pain, discomfort or other limitations. Jeff Zrebiec from The Athletic stated on the Ravens Collective Podcast, that he was surprised if Ricard didn’t return after the Bye. He noted that Ricard would be a significant addition to the Ravens run-game that has been inconsistent since losing their 300-pound Fullback.

CB Chidobe Awuzie

Awuzie will also be returning after the bye, after missing the two previous games due to a hamstring problem. Zrebiec reports that he returned to the practice field on Friday, and seemed to be doing better than RoquanSmith earlier in this week. Awuzie is also expected to play Week 8 as Smith will.

The Ravens’ veteran cornerback had a quiet but excellent start to his new season, giving up only 5.9 yard per target. 2 outside cornerback opposite Nate Wiggins. Awuzie’s return will help Baltimore’s defensive unit bounce back in second half of season.

OT Emery Jones Jr.

Jones had shoulder surgery in march, which kept him out of all Ravens spring and summer practice. He started the regular season as a physically unable-to-perform list player and made his debut in practice as soon as Week 5 came around.

Third-rounder Jones was fully involved in practice last weekend and will be removed from the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list next week. However, he’s unlikely to play any gameday roles anytime soon. Jones has only a few weeks’ worth of experience as a Raven and an NFL player.

George Warhop, offensive line coach, said on Tuesday that it’s difficult for a rookie player to miss the entire training camp and the start of the season in order to get a solid understanding of what we do. Jones, for example, did not take part in pass protection drills during his first two practice weeks, indicating that he still has some work to do before he is ready to make his professional debut.
