Baltimore Ravens announced their inactives ahead of their Week 5 game against the Houston Texans. It is difficult to imagine a list more significant.
The Ravens have also promoted defensive tackle CJ OKoye and quarterback Tyler Huntley from the practice team.
It’s possible that this is the most talented group in Ravens’ history of inactives. They have a combined 20 Pro Bowls, 11 first-team All-Pro selections and $88.4 millions in cap space. Add Nnamdi Washington, Ar’Darius Washington, and Broderick Washington to the mix, and you get 22 Pro Bowls, and more than $120 million. Chidobe awuzie is the only one who has not been recognized, despite playing excellent football to begin the year.
On Friday, all absences except Hamilton and Stanley were already decided. Hamilton was expected to play, but the Ravens didn’t promote any defensive backs off the practice squad. The Ravens will instead use a seven-man defensive backfield – with four cornerbacks, three safeties and one safety.
In Hamilton’s absence, it will be interesting to watch if Sanoussi Lowery or Reuben Kane take more snaps. It is unclear which player the Ravens prefer this season. They may choose to use Kane as a box safety and Lowery at free safety. This would give Lowery a larger role. Lowery was positioned as the starter during warmups. , per Jeff Zrebiec from The Athletic.
Joe Noteboom, in place of Stanley at left tackle, will be the starter. This is a big concern for the Texans’ edge rushers Danielle Hunter & Will Anderson. Rush must get the ball to the receiver on time in order to avoid negative plays, which will doom the Ravens’ chances against a strong Houston defense.
