They got to see the Baltimore team from the other side, with dominating victories. Check in with the Ravens’ rookies following their first home win.
Starks played a key role in the defensive effort of today’s dominating performance. I don’t care if he doesn’t get his name or stats called. You may not be noticing the defensive backs because they’re doing their job correctly. For now, though, I am thrilled that a rookie is taking 100% of snaps without making a mistake. It’s rare to see that.
Kyle Van Noy was injured early in the match and was ruled out. Green was forced to take more snaps in the game today than usual. On his first sack he came close to securing Flacco’s legs but Flacco was able to get the ball away just in time. Green was in the backfield quite a bit, and he contributed a number of pressures on third downs without being victimized. Green’s performance today was a good but not great effort. We will have to wait until the final stats are released.
Buchanan played a lot of football this week, and he has taken the place next to Roquan. He was present for the majority of the defensive series. Buchanan had a quiet night, but it’s worth wondering if his presence will allow Roquan to return to elite play. This could be worth more than his stats. Next week, we’ll see if he continues to play.
Loop was perfect in his debut as a place kicker. Early on, he was 2/2 in his field goal attempts, making them from 43 and 32. This helped the Ravens’ offense, which had been struggling, maintain an early lead. Loop went 5/5 in extra points after the Ravens’ touchdowns. As the kickoff specialist he did commit penalties, miskicking on two kickoffs and giving the Browns a good start field position. The Ravens and he will need to improve this as new kickoff rules are implemented.
Wester’s return was the largest of his two-week career. Hjs one play was special. He confidently took a ball that bounced out of the sky and returned it for 23 yard to help turn the field. This led to the Ravens scoring their first points. He is the best punt returner this team has seen since Jacoby. It makes a big difference even if it’s just by fielding punts without making any mistakes. Returns are an added bonus
