The Ravens were able to dominate Cleveland, despite the slow start. They beat the Browns by 41-17. This game was not perfect, but there were many positives. We’ll look at the good, bad and one ugly aspect of this game.
Roquan:Roquan had his best game in 2023. He finished with 15 tackles – more than twice the number of the next defender. He had six tackles in total, three tackles-for-loss and a quarterback’s hit. Last season, he had four tackles-for-loss. He had a touchdown scored after a long scoop. Recently, there has been much talk about Smith’s lack of big plays in the past year. He was the team’s best defensive player today, and hopefully this will become a new trend.
Tezwalker: This kid has had three catches during his career. The kid has scored three touchdowns during his career. What more could I ask for?
DeAndre Hoskins:This man is incredible. It was clear that the washed-up talk this offseason had been overblown. That wasn’t in question. The fact that he is still this good, though? He made some insane catches today. Lamar Jackson has never had a physical presence outside like this in his entire career. He’s the definition of being “open, even when he isn’t”.
Zay Flower: Seven catches of 75 yards, but quiet and strong. He is developing into the best target in the league and the team. He is a multi-role player, who runs all over the field and moves the chains. Once the ball is his, he gets to the north. At this stage of his career, he just feels like the man.
Nate WigginsThe Browns hit Wiggins hard today, for whatever reason. He responded without any fear. He showed off his speed by returning 61 yards on a huge interception and three passes he defended. He also displayed the physicality, which is not often talked about. He laid the wood in a tackle for a loss. He’s quickly becoming a top-notch lockdown corner.
The Defense : It was important to bounce back after last week’s poor performance. The Ravens were able to do just that. The Ravens only allowed 10 points. This excludes a garbage time touchdown, when the starters weren’t on the field. Two sacks, 5 passes defensed and 7 tackles for losses were all they did today. They also hit Flacco 9 times. They didn’t do everything perfectly, but it was expected that they would dominate the Browns offensively and they did.
Jordan Stout : Stout had a fantastic day today. Stout, despite the Ravens early offensive struggles, helped to keep the Browns on the backfoot and out of the best field positions. This allowed the defense to work. Stout is having the best start to his career. He could get a new deal if he continues this.
Run game: Today, they had nothing to offer. Henry ran a few mid-yardage plays, but most of the attempts today were stuffed or only lasted a yard. Henry, Hill and Jackson seemed to be lacking space to gain a head start past the line.
“Maturity: Most of the Ravens players and their defense were excellent. Marlon Humphrey commented on the “maturity of the defense” at certain points during the week. The Ravens, just like last week allowed another touchdown on 4th down off a deflection. Humphries tried to grab the interception rather than just batting it down as a turnover on downs. He’ll kick himself for that one
Offensive line: This was ugly. There is no other way to describe it. Browns front seven stomped on the Ravens line for most of the game. This left no space for the running game, or Lamar Jackson to be in the pocket. This was the main reason why the offense struggled so much until the second half. The Browns defense will be one of the best in the league this year, and specifically their front seven. This is a week-long thing, so hopefully this will be over soon.
