Baltimore Ravens thrash Cleveland Browns 41-17 in their home opener. They’ve now scored over 40 points for the second consecutive game. The Ravens closed the game with three touchdowns, which prevented any Browns comeback.
MVP: WR Devontez Walker
He’s caught the ball three times in the NFL, and each time he ended up in the endzone. Today, he had two receptions of 26 yards each and two touchdowns. Walker gives the Ravens a boost they needed.
MVP :Special teams
Ravens special teams played a great game. Loop scored perfectly. Jordan Stout’s punt placement and distance have been excellent in both games. Jake Hummel also had a block for the punt unit, and LaJohntayWester was able to return a kick with great success. Only two kicks from Loop were out of bounds today, giving the Browns a positive field position.
MVP: Fourth-Quarter Ravens
The Ravens were 10 points ahead of the Packers in the fourth quarter and ESPN’s win probability was above 90%. This has been the case for a while, since they haven’t closed out games. It was against the Browns that they were at their very best. Walker scored his second touchdown in the game. Roquan Smith ran 64 yards to score after he scooped up Tavius Robinson’s strip-sack of Joe Flacco. DeAndre Hopkins capped it off with a 23 yard reception. He contorted his body to catch the dime-sized pass from Lamar Jackson. All around brilliant.
Roquan Smith– It was a pleasure to see Smith bounce back after a difficult time and perform well, culminating in a touchdown. Smith led the team with 15 tackles and had two quarterback hits. He also had three TFLs.
Lamar Jackson, QB – Jackson finished the game 19-of-30 for 225 yard and four touchdowns with a 128,6 quarterback rating. He is the best quarterback in the NFL.
Tylan Wallace On a Ravens day that includes Rashod bateman, Zay flowers and DeAndre Hoskins, Walker and Wallace are the ones who score. Wallace scored the first touchdown of the day during the second quarter. He finished today with two receptions for 25 yards on two targets. Prior to the touchdown, a crucial fumble was recovered the play before.
Nate Wiggins After the Ravens were unable to score after a Hopkins reception at the half-yard-line, Ravens fans became frustrated. Wiggins intercepted Flacco on the first play of the Browns’ second-half drive and returned it 61 yard to give red zone offense a chance. Takeaways are crucial for this defense, and Wiggins is second in his career with two against the Browns.
WR DeAndre HOpkins –He is exactly what the Ravens are looking for. A veteran receiver that can make the unthinkable possible. Hopkins finished the day with 64 yards on two receptions. He would have scored two touchdowns if he had gained a half-yard.
P Jordan Stout The Ravens punter did not live up to the expectations of his selection in previous seasons. Stout’s punts have been perfect in the past two games, indicating a more confident punter. This is a perfect example of the impact a good punter can have on a team.
OLB Tavius robinson –He has been highly regarded by Ravens brass, and his impact on a strip-sacking of Flacco was noticed today. This resulted in the Ravens scoring their first touchdown since 2005 for fumble returns.
CB T.J. Tampa — Guess Jerry Jeudy missed the memo about Tampa’s balling skills. This Ravens secondary is not going to be “challenged” by anyone. Tampa took the ball from Jeudy and returned it to the offense.
Nnamdi MadubuikeBeeks has returned to his old form, as he had a sack each of the two first games.
WR zay flowers –While the other players got all the glory for their touchdowns, Flowers racked up 75 yards with seven receptions. He is making single cuts faster and moving upfield for crucial yardage.
DisciplineTwo games have seen a notable lack of penalties that are back-breaking. The Bills’ cornerback Jaire Alexander, who was responsible for the Bills’ penalty, was not present.
Derrick Henry, RB –I’m afraid to call Henry anything near a loser. The title is more of a description of how the game played. The Browns tried everything to slow the veteran back down today. He ended the day with 11 runs for 23 yards (2.1YPC). For the Browns it was at the cost of their aerial attack from the passing game. Henry lost the ball again for the second week in a row. Wallace recovered the ball.
CB Marlon Hushprey –A missed interception is a bummer. It’s brutal to see that Browns score a touchdown on 4th and 2 from 18 yards with the interception they dropped. These are the kind of plays that will make a difference for this team as it pursues a championship.
Run blockingIt is clear that the Browns sold out to stop the rush. The Ravens were dominant at the line of scrimmage as they thrashed Bills. The Bills were limited to just 45 rushing yards.
Third Down Offense –Despite their score, the Ravens only converted three third downs on 12 attempts. The Ravens will need to be more aggressive in moving the chains when facing other teams.
