The Ravens have a lot to do before the trade deadline of 4pm.
Baltimore made an excellent move by trading for Tennessee Titans’ edge rusher Dre’Mont Jones. Although he’s not a big name, and may or may not be able to make a difference on his own, Jones is just what the Ravens’ defense needed. Jones will allow Kyle Van Noy, Mike Green and Kyle Hamilton to have more time on the field, allowing them to stay healthy in the long run.
The trade made yesterday is not enough to help this team compete in the Super Bowl. The Ravens have made two additions to their team this year. It’s safe say that the Ravens will not fold after a 1-5 season in 2025. The Ravens can’t stay at this middling position they are now. They have to keep adding talent to get to the Super Bowl-level that was imagined during preseason ranking.
What are the Ravens going to do as time passes and the deadline draws near? Answer: an addition to the trenches. Yesterday, we discussed possible additions along the offensive line and defensive lines . It is best to bring in a large fish on the Ravens’ defensive line, who can pair up with Jones and help boost their pass rush. Quinnen Williams trade price has ranged from multiple first round picks up to possibly starting with a 2nd round pick. T’Vondre Swat, a Titans DT who is cheaper, could be a good option for the Ravens. Sweat, a second-rounder from an older regime, is not the biggest fish but he has a huge ceiling and could be the game-breaker, which is more than many other players available at the deadline.
A cornerback trade is another move that I can see the Ravens making. Although it seems absurd, given the other problems on the team, this might be a necessary move. Jaire Alexander was not a great fit in Baltimore but he could have been a backup corner if Nate Wiggins, Marlon Huffrey or another Ravens star were to get injured. Hamilton’s new hybrid role in the Philadelphia Eagles has allowed them to reduce the need for an a full-time nickel cornerback. Tampa has played well, or at least enough to put him ahead of Alexander in the depth chart. However, the Ravens may want to find a better backup plan. It is not impossible that the Ravens will try to repeat their Tre’Davious White trade with a new player. Kristian Fulton and Jarron Jones are two players who, due to their team’s scheme, haven’t played much for them. They could be considered as smaller trades. Riq Woolen and Deonte Banks are also listed as options if the Ravens want to go larger.
It is reasonable to expect that the Ravens will make at least one move before the deadline, ideally somewhere in the trenches. Eric DeCosta may make several moves to bolster his injured team. I think the Ravens will add to their defensive line. Unfortunately, it’s likely that a lesser-known name, like Sebastian Joseph Day, won’t make a difference. The Ravens will likely add a corner piece if they make two trades on Monday. However, I think the Ravens may wait and see if Asante Samuel Jr. is cleared to play.
