In this game, the Ravens only played 43 offensive snaps and did not maximize them. Cooper Rush, along with all five of the starting offensive linemen, played 100 percent in this game. Rashod Bateman and Zay Flowers were the only other players who exceeded an 80% share of snaps, each with 35 and 36 snaps. Flowers caught five passes totaling 72 yards, while Bateman did not catch a single pass on any of his three targets.
Derrick Henry was the dominant running back this week. This is a departure from previous games. However, his impact on the game was minimal with only 33 yards gained in 15 carries. Keaton Mitchel played only four offensive snaps in his debut season, behind Justice Hill’s 13 snaps. Both had less than eight yards of rushing, and both only had one catch.
The team’s three best tight ends split the snaps very evenly. Mark Andrews took 25 snaps. Isaiah Likely took 23, and Charlie Kolar took 20. Likely and Kolar were each targeted only once. Andrews caught 2 passes for 22 yards, but missed another target which was intercepted.
Deandre Hopkins (11 snaps), Tylan Wallace (4 snaps) and rookie LaJohntay Westerner (4 snaps) rounded out the group of skill positions in snaps. Hopkins was the second-best receiver on the team, catching 2 passes for 46 yard with a 29-yard highlight in the first quarter.
When your defense is on the field for more snaps than your offense, you are in trouble. In Week 5, the Ravens’ defense played 70 snaps. The Texans were a constant problem for them and they allowed 40+ point for the third consecutive game. Houston scored eight times and punted just once.
Teddye Buchanan, in the absence of Roquan Simpson, played all 70 snapped at linebacker. Trenton Simpson also played 94% snaps for the season as the opposing starter. Malaki Starks, a fellow rookie who started in place of Kyle Hamilton and was activated to play 100% of the snaps as a safety, also played 100%. Lowery replaced Sanoussi Kane who had not seen a defensive snap this season.
T.J. Tampa topped all cornerbacks with 60 snaps. Keyon Martin, UDFA’s rookie cornerback, played a record 49 snaps this season. Martin was the nickel cornerback of choice with Marlon Huffprey not in the lineup. Jaire Alexander played 28 snaps after returning to the rotation in Week 1. Nate Wiggins, who had been nursing an elbow injury in the week before this game, played 53 snaps.
Travis Jones (33 snaps), and Kyle Van Noy, each with 19 snaps, returned from injuries. John Jenkins, a veteran defensive tackle who played 76% of the snaps, led all edge rushers with 50 snaps. Odafe Oweh’s playing time decreased further after he was deemed questionable for play due to an eye injury. Oweh was a distant second to Mike Green in snaps with 26. Green played 42 snaps.
