Ravens Sign Safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson joins the practice squad

The Ravens have signed safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson has been added to the Ravens’ practice squad, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Gardner-Johnson will add a playmaker that is much needed to the Ravens’ defense, which has only two interceptions in its first five games. Only one other team has less.

Baltimore’s secondary is jacked up. Safety Kyle Hamilton was sidelined by a groin strain that kept him out of Sunday’s lopsided defeat to the Houston Texans. Undrafted rookie safety Reuben Lowery III played every snap.

Gardner-Johnson, who made six interceptions and 12 passes defended, as well as 59 tackles, helped the Philadelphia Eagles to win the Super Bowl in 2016.

He was, however, traded to the Texans in this offseason as part of a late round pick trade for guard Kenyon Green who, coincidentally, is now on the Ravens practice squad.

Gardner-Johnson made 15 tackles in the Texans first three games. The Texans released him on September 23, saying, “I know the best thing for my team..”

Gardner-Johnson has the chance to establish his own reputation in Baltimore. His boisterous personality has seen him make multiple stops in his seven-year professional career. Gardner-Johnson, who spent his first three years with the New Orleans Saints before moving on to the Eagles, Lions, Texans and Ravens in the last four seasons, is known for having a boisterous personality.

He has been productive everywhere he has gone. He also has six picks for the Eagles 2022, and 18 in his career.

Baltimore has been without Ar’Darius Washington, the safety, since May when he tore an Achilles tendon. This forced Malaki Starks, a rookie first-round selection from Baltimore in a full-time role right away. Marlon Awuzie and Chidobe Humphrey are both out with injuries for the Ravens.
