Ravens sign former Pro Bowl guard to practice squad

The Ravens added veteran guard Laken Tolinson to their practice squad on Tuesday.

Tomlinson was the Houston Texans left guard starting the season. He played in seven of the first eight games for the Texans, but was replaced by another player the last few weeks. Last week he was released.

The Ravens need more depth in the position after Ben Cleveland was suspended for three games by the NFL for violating its substance abuse policy.

Tomlinson, who is 6’3″ and 323 pounds, was named a Pro Bowler for 2021. He was a first-round draft pick in 2015 out of Duke. He has played for the Detroit Lions since then, as well as the San Francisco 49ers and New York Jets.

According to Pro Football Focus, Andrew Vorhees is ranked No. 57 among NFL guards that have played at least 20 percent of their team’s snaps this season. Ravens left guard Andrew Vorhees is ranked at No. Right guard Daniel Faalele ranks No. 54.

John Harbaugh, the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, was asked to give his opinion on his guards after Sunday’s defeat.

“I thought that the guards played exceptionally in the run-game.” Harbaugh stated that they “moved people, and they wore people out.” This was a good thing to see. They were good at the pass game but inconsistent.

“I think they each had two or three. Daniel probably had two or three in the pass-game, and Andrew may have had one or more in the running game that he wanted back. “But every player has a play they want to relive.”

On Thanksgiving night, the Ravens rotated Emery Jones Jr. at left guard with Vorhees. Jones played 16 offensive snaps. Harbaugh stated that “based on this performance, it’s hard to say if it was better, or even the same,” as Vorhees and Faalele.

Tomlinson was added to the Ravens’ practice squad after Lawson, a veteran outside linebacker, was released. Lawson made 26 defensive snaps in one game, against the Cincinnati Bengals, on Thanksgiving. He played one game and had one tackle.
