Baltimore has been infected by the injury bug.
The Ravens have listed 11 starters on their first injury report, ahead of Week 5, when they face the Houston Texans. This includes new injuries for Kyle Hamilton, Tyler Linderbaum and Chidobie awuzie. Brent Urban and Devontez Walker are also included.
Both sides have reached a critical point. Baltimore has a shortage of cornerbacks and defensive linesmen. A Lamar Jackson-less offensive unit will struggle against Houston’s elite defence. Even if the Ravens are able to get some injured players back on the field for the next two games they will be severely limited by their injuries.
Emery Jones, the third-round selection from Wednesday’s injuries report, made his debut in practice. Since March, the former LSU right guard has been out of action. Jones, who started the regular season as a player on the Physically Unable to Perform list, participated in practice the moment he became eligible. It’s a positive sign that Jones is recovering, but it is unlikely he will play in the offense any time soon. In college he played right tackle, but he may be better suited to play guard in the NFL. This position switch could take time and the Ravens are committed to their O-line.
The Ravens injury report is here for Wednesday.
The Texans have a relatively healthy team going into this matchup. The star cornerback Derek Stingley has been dealing with an injury to his oblique that he sustained in Week 4. He did not play on Wednesday. In the event that Stingley is unable to play in Sunday’s Baltimore game, Tremon Smith and Zion Childress will be a significant drop from the All-Pro.
Folorunso Faukasi, a backup defensive tackle from Texas, was the other Texan who missed Wednesday’s practice due to an injury. Houston’s defensive line is deep enough that Fatukasi would have little impact.
