On Friday, the Baltimore Ravens interviewed Kevin Stefanski, former head coach of the Cleveland Browns for their vacant head coaching position.
Stefanski began his NFL coaching career in Minnesota with the Vikings, where he rose from assistant coach to offensive coordinator before joining the Cleveland Browns.
Stefanski was the head coach of Browns for 6 years, before he was fired on Monday. The Browns’ season ended with a 5-12 record, which was their fourth losing season during Stefanski’s tenure. They also finished last in the AFC North division for the second time.
Stefanski, despite a 45-56 record in the regular season, left a positive impression on Cleveland by being its most successful coach of this century. In the 2020 season, Stefanski led the team in its first appearance in the playoffs in 18 years. It also achieved its first win in 26 years when it defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers by a score of 48-37. In 2020 and 2023, the 43-year old was named AP Coach Of The Year.
Cleveland’s success was short-lived and inconsistent. However, the team’s poor performance in the last decade is largely attributable to the front office. According to ESPN , during Stefanski’s 6 seasons the Browns used a league high 13 quarterbacks.
