NFL Network Ian Rapoport reported earlier this week that the Baltimore Ravens interviewed Kansas City Chiefs’ offensive coordinator Matt Nagy today for their vacant head coaching position. The Ravens also interviewed Vance Joseph and Davis Webb. Klint Kubica, Kevin Stefanski, and Klint Kobiak were all previously interviewed. The Ravens also requested interviews with multiple other candidates.
Nagy has been in the NFL since 2008, when he began as an intern with the Philadelphia Eagles. He spent a few years with the Eagles as an offensive assistant before joining the Chiefs, in 2013, as their quarterbacks’ coach. Nagy was promoted in 2016 and 2017, to Kansas City’s offensive coordinator, before being hired by the Chicago Bears in 2018 as their new coach.
Nagy’s tenure as head coach with the Bears came to an end in 2021 when the team decided to part ways. Chicago Bears’ head coach Nagy led the team to a 34-31 record overall and one playoff appearance in his four years. Nagy was named Coach of the Year for 2018 after guiding the Bears to 12-4 record, and No. The Bears were the No. 3 seed in NFC, but they failed to achieve a better finish than.500 for the next three seasons.
In 2022, he returned to Kansas City as a quarterback coach for the Chiefs and senior offensive assistant. He was appointed offensive coordinator for the Chiefs again in 2022 and held this position for three seasons. During his last stint as Chiefs’ OC, they made two Super Bowls appearances and one win in 2023. They missed the playoffs again this year.
Kansas City’s offensive success has decreased in recent years compared to the first half Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes’ era. Reid, Mahomes and Travis Kelce were the mainstays of Kansas City’s offensive success for many years. Nagy, who has worked under Reid and with these stars, is likely to have gained valuable experience and perspective. This could help him land a new job as head coach.
