The Baltimore Ravens have been plagued by injuries over the last two weeks. However, on Wednesday they got some good news. Both All-Pro safety Kyle Hamilton and left tackle Ronnie Stanley, who missed the Houston Texans game last week, have returned to practice. Stanley was also sidelined during the entire Week 4 game after leaving the field early.
Hamilton and Stanley both practiced this early in the week, despite their limited practices. This bodes well for the chances that they will be in uniform this Sunday when the Los Angeles Rams visit. The Ravens would benefit greatly from either of their return to the lineup, whether it is on offense or defence. The Ravens used UDFA Reuben Lowery as safety last week and veteran Joseph Noteboom as left tackle.
Five injured starters were held out of practice on Wednesday. They are: QB Lamar Jackson, LB Roquan (hamstring), CB Marlon (calf), Chidobe (hamstring), Pat Ricard. In addition, WR Zay Flower (shoulder) and OT Roger Rosengarten(knee), were added to the list of injuries. Both still participated in limited practice.
The Ravens might decide to take a conservative approach to the return of some players, as the bye-week is coming up after Week 6. They may not want to rush these players back into action. This is especially true for Jackson, who’s availability is crucial for the Ravens to make a turnaround in the second half of this season.
The Ravens may make a change to their quarterback after a disappointing performance from the offense. John Harbaugh, the Ravens’ head coach, hinted this week that they may consider playing Tyler Huntley. Huntley has played for the Ravens before when Jackson was out.
Last week, the Ravens were forced to play more snaps with young defensive backs Lowery and KeyonMartin due to Humphrey’s and Awuzie’s injuries. The Ravens will likely continue to shuffle the secondary after adding two veteran safeties via trade (Alohi Gillman) and free agent signing Chauncey Gardner Johnson this week.
Ricard is now out for almost two months due to a persistent calf injury. Harbaugh revealed recently that Ricard had been expected to miss only a few weeks, but suffered a setback. He’s likely to miss practice again this week and will return after the bye-week.
