Donald Bruce Hall tells friends that there is only one reason he wouldn’t be able to attend a Ravens match.
This would be going to his funeral.
He said, “I hope that I can live to be 100 years old and not miss a single game.”
Hall, 67 has had Ravens season tickets ever since 1996, when the franchise was founded. He’s never missed an event.
The Ravens have shown their appreciation to Hall’s fandom this week by giving him two tickets and a trip for the Super Bowl LX, which will be held in Santa Clara.
Hall will be flying for the first time, but was ecstatic when he received the surprise during a tour of Under Armour Performance Center. He just hopes that his Ravens will be in it.
Hall said, “It will be difficult to pull it off but you cannot count them out.” Hall said, “Maybe they will get together and run.”
Hall is a Baltimore football enthusiast who has enjoyed a long and successful career. Hall’s love for Baltimore football dates back to his childhood, when he sat on his dad’s lap and watched Baltimore Colts matches. He was devastated when the Colts left town in 1984, and like many football fans, gave up on football.
Hall jumped back into the game when Baltimore acquired the Canadian Football League Stallions, in 1994. Hall attended all of their games, except for two. He was at his grandfather’s funeral or his cousin’s marriage.
Hall purchased permanent seats as soon as the Ravens moved to Baltimore. Hall is in section 513, Row 14 of the upper concourse in the north endzone. Hall has his binoculars and headphones ready to listen to local radio 98 Rock/WBAL1090 AM broadcast.
You get to see the entire play. Hall said, “I like it.” I couldn’t afford to pay for the expensive seats.
He has created a community at “The Perch” by rotating who goes with him to games. It’s true that he could watch the games on television, but there is nothing like being in person. Every game, he walks down Ravens Walk, says hi to Keith Mills from WBAL, and gets to his seat early so he can watch the warmups.
Hall stated, “I enjoy the experience of taking it all in.” I’m going to attend. I try to not let other things and stuff influence me in terms of, “Why did they get rid this player?” Or whatever. It’s part of doing business. “I’ll be rooting for whoever’s there.”
Hall’s favorites games were his first, in which the Ravens defeated the Oakland Raiders at Memorial Stadium. And their playoff victory against the Broncos, where Shannon Sharpe took a tipped ball 58 yards to the sideline and scored a touchdown, that began the Super Bowl run of 2000.
Hall says he has never missed a match (not even the preseason). He once left his tickets behind at home. He has been sick several times.
He said, “I may not have felt 100 percent but I was good enough to leave.”
What is his favorite part about gameday?
He said, “When we win.” “When we beat Steelers.”
We hope Hall enjoys a great gameday at M&T Bank Stadium this Sunday.
