Ravens downgrade WR Rashod Bateman, DT Taven Bryan vs. Steelers

Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Rashod bateman, and defensive tackle Taven bryan were downgraded from questionable status to out for the Steelers game on Sunday.

Bateman. Bateman, 26, was unable to practice this week due to an illness. John Harbaugh, the head coach of the team, expressed optimism on Thursday about the health of the fifth-year wide receiver. However he did not recover in time for him to play.

Bateman will end his 2025 season with 19 catches, 38 targets and 224 yards. He also scored two touchdowns. In terms of both volume and efficiency, he has recorded lower numbers than his breakthrough 2024 season. Sunday will be his fourth absence this season, after only missing one in the previous two years.

Bateman has certainly regressed due to the Ravens’ overall passing struggles, but this is a two-way street. The former first round pick has not been able to make a significant impact this year.

Bryan, 29 years old, has been recovering from a serious knee injury which landed him in injured reserve at the beginning of November. He was back in practice by the end of the last week and has progressed this week to full participation, but the Ravens have refused to activate him. To do this, they would need to free up a 53-man spot on the roster. However, there is no clear way to accomplish that. Bryan’s window of practice will close in one week. The Ravens must act quickly if they want to qualify for the playoffs.

The Ravens could use a four-man rotation for Sunday’s match and inactivate Aeneas Pease, just as they did the previous week. Steelers could rely on their running game with D.K. Metcalf’s absence could give Peebles a chance to play on game day.
