Ravens-Chiefs injury report 1: DL health is in crisis

The Ravens have released their first injury reports for Week 4. Six players missed Wednesday’s practice including three of the team’s defensive linemen, Nnamdiabuike, Travis Jones and Broderick Watford.

John Harbaugh’s remarks last week was an early indication that Madubuike’s neck injury might be a serious issue. He struck a more concerned tone on Wednesday.

Harbaugh said, “I’d say that I am concerned but I can’t really comment right now” before adding that the medical evaluations were still in progress. Not good.

Madubuike is a key part of Baltimore’s defensive line, and his absence has left a huge hole. He is the Ravens best defensive lineman, and also the team’s top run-stopper. The roster is not built to handle a prolonged absence from him.

Here are the estimated injuries of the Ravens after their walk-through Wednesday:

The Ravens D-line is now down to three starters, with Broderick and Travis Washington both injured. Baltimore has added two experienced defensive tackles to its practice squad to increase the depth of their unit. This is usually a bad sign, but Harbaugh remains optimistic about Jones and Washington.

He said, “I’ve got a good feeling for those guys. But we’ll have to wait and watch.”

Ronnie Stanley didn’t practice on Wednesday but he still played all snaps against the Lions. This shows that the ankle injury he sustained was not serious enough to keep him out of the match. The Ravens are hoping that he will be able to return to the field in Kansas City on Thursday.

Only two of the 13 Chiefs listed on Wednesday’s injury report – cornerback Kristian Fultan (ankle) and defensive end Mike Danna, (quad), were restricted participants. All 11 players, including quarterback Patrick Mahomes and center Creed Humphrey, participated in full practice.
