Ravens ask to interview Vikings DC Brian Flores

Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports that the Baltimore Ravens have requested to interview Minnesota Vikings’ defensive coordinator Brian Flores as a candidate for their vacant head coaching position.

Flores spent a decade working in New England in various roles, including special teams assistant, defense assistant, safetyies coach, andlinebackers coach, before landing his inaugural head coaching position at Miami in 2019. Flores’ tenure at the Dolphins wasn’t a success, with a 24-25 record, no playoff appearances and many headlines. Flores’ refusal to tank in 2019, which strained relations with the Dolphins ownership, rumors about Flores not wanting Tagovailoa at quarterback and confirmation of the Dolphins’ pursuit of Sean Peyton as their quarterback were all reported. Unfortunately, the stint and drama tarnished Flores’ reputation after his tenure in Miami. Many said he could not be a head coach because of his temper.

Flores worked as a linebackers and senior defensive assistant in Pittsburgh for a year after leaving Miami. Flores was given a lifeline by Mike Tomlin after his Miami failure. Flores used what he had learned from Tomlin to go to Minnesota and work as the defensive coordinator for the past two seasons.

The Ravens have called, hoping to bring Flores’ passion and attention to details to Baltimore’s defense. The Ravens’ defense has been inconsistent since Mike Macdonald left. In the last seven seasons, they’ve also lost multiple fourth-quarter lead during John Harbaugh’s tenure. 13 games have been lost since 2020 with a double-digit advantage. Flores also gushed repeatedly about Lamar Jackson in press conferences, and believes he is the right coach to push Jackson.
