Mark Andrews’ timely touchdown and a heroic defensive effort helped the Baltimore Ravens to a 23-16 win over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. Here are the latest news from Week 11:
The Ravens appeared to be able to come out of the game on Sunday without any serious injuries. Keyon Martin, a cornerback, had to spend the night at a Cleveland-area hospital for evaluation of a chest injury. But John Harbaugh stated on Monday that all tests were “negative, in a positive way.”
Martin’s condition will be closely monitored this week. When called on to replace Marlon Hushprey as the slot player during both of Humphrey’s injuries, he has performed well. Last week, he made two important tackles in Minnesota to seal the win. On Sunday, he looked even better with his first pass break-up of career and sack. Both came on third-down. Jerry Jeudy was stopped by a diving tackle at the goal-line. Shedeur Sander was dropped 14 yards back behind the line of the scrimmage, forcing a punt.
Harbaugh was optimistic on Humphrey’s availability for the Week 11 game. However, Wednesday’s injury report is more telling. Humphrey wore a cast to protect his hand during Week 10. He will have “some protection,” when he returns.
The Ravens have not provided any updates on other injured players. Mike Green, the outside linebacker, was able to work despite an ankle injury. He should be fine moving forward. Rashod bateman, the wide receiver for Baltimore’s second game, could be back in practice this week. However, he might not play until Thanksgiving because of the short time between games. Justice Hill has yet to be diagnosed with a toe injury. However, the team should have an update on Wednesday.
Mark Andrews’ 35-yard touchdown run: It was a great decision. The play is called “Hurricane” and I thought the guys executed it really well. It was great to have a versatile package. It was great to be in the endzone.”
Kyle Hamilton’s comments on the defense: “We were thrown into sticky situations and held them to just a field goal with the muffed kick, which is what we are called to do.” No matter the situation or the state of the game, as long as there is a blade to defend we will defend it.
Hamilton’s reaction to Browns QB Shedeur Sander: “We preach faceless and nameless opponents. When the crowd went crazy, I was confused. Then I saw Shedeur. “There weren’t many adjustments. We’re just playing our game and trying to get the ball off the field, which is what guys did today.”
Derrick Henry: “You need games like these during the season.” This game is similar to a playoff style. I’m happy we won and will continue to focus on week-by-week. “We’re 1-0 in this week and look forward to the next one.”
Lamar Jackson explains what he was thinking during Andrews touchdown: “Go.”
Unsurprisingly, the game-winning “Hurricane” was a hot topic at postgame media availability. However, Harbaugh and Andrews declined to provide too many details about the play. The Ravens decided to keep the tush-push this offseason, after seeing some success with tight ends. Todd Monken’s latest variations could make it easier for right-up the middle conversions moving forward.
The Ravens made a huge adjustment to their defense in the second half, despite Hamilton’s remarks about Sanders. Zach Orr sent four rushers to Dillon Gabriel, using simulated pressures at the second level. However, he also blitzed Sanders, with five or more rushers, in a 40% rate, according to both Pro Football Focus & Next Gen Stats.
