News & Notes : Ravens eagerly anticipate Patrick Ricard’s debut

Zach Orr spent the bye week planning more pressure

The Ravens have eight sacks, which is tied with the lowest number in the NFL. Baltimore’s lack of pressure may also be a factor in why they have the second-fewest takeaways among NFL teams.

Losing outside linebackers Tavius Oweh and Odafe Robinson to injury or trade is not helping. Zach Orr, the defensive coordinator, was challenged to create more pressure in the bye period.

“We spent a great deal of time [on this]. Orr stated that this was the primary focus of our study.

“I’m very excited that the coaches have come up with this plan. I think they did a fantastic job. I can’t say too much right now, but it will be good for us.

Not just a creative blitz on third down.

Orr explained that the problem was we hadn’t generated enough negative plays to reach third-and long situations, particularly on first- and second-down. Orr said, “We looked at it hard and now have a plan for trying to create more negative plays, and we are looking forward to doing this.”

Orr learned a lot from the best coaches. Mike Macdonald is the current head coach of Seattle Seahawks. He was an expert at bringing free runners to the quarterback. The two are still in contact. Macdonald called Orr while the Ravens went on their break on Friday.

“That’s me guy.” Orr replied, “We’re friends.” “Our relationship is more than just football. I am happy and proud to be able to say this. We catch up, and talk about football, but mostly family. We talk. “We have a good relationship and that’s the guy I am talking to.”
