Harbaugh explains his decision to keep Keaton Mitchell inactive

Keaton Mitchell, the Ravens running back who had a great summer and training camp but was scratched on Sunday after an impressive performance.

Harbaugh explained that the decision to bench Mitchell was based on the limited opportunities for the third year tailback, behind Henry and Justice Hill.

Harbaugh stated, “It was numbers.” “You can’t have everyone up [on gameday roster].” You have to decide who is going to play and who will be sitting, and you only have a limited number of snaps to get Keaton on offense.

Harbaugh said that Mitchell’s main opportunities will come from “designer plays,” in which the defense can be on their antennae, knowing the ball is likely to go his way.

Mitchell was also used as a returner of kickoffs in the summer and preseason, but Harbaugh says he has more room to improve in this phase of the game.

Harbaugh stated that “He is doing OK on special teams but will tell you that he has to improve in this area to earn the position.” “You’re not doing well in other areas,” Harbaugh said.
