Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love failed to clear the concussion protocols and was ruled from Saturday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens.
Love suffered a concussion during the Bears’ loss last week and was listed questionable following a limited practice schedule all week. Malik Willis, the backup quarterback who is battling an illness and a shoulder injury, will replace him. Clayton Tune was elevated from the Packers’ practice squad to become the team’s No. 2.
Love’s absence creates a battle between Willis, the Ravens quarterback Tyler Huntley and Lamar Jackson who will be starting in his place. Jackson, who took a knee in the back against the Patriots on Sunday night, was unable to practice this past week. He is listed with a doubtful status and will not be playing.
Willis performed well last week in Love’s absence. He completed eight of his eleven passes for 121 yard and a touchdown. In addition, Willis rushed 10 times for 44 yards, and had a fumble. Huntley, who has also stepped in when Jackson was injured, led the Ravens to victory over the Bears 30-16 and almost outlasted the Patriots Sunday night.
It would seem that defensive play is in store, if both teams are using backup quarterbacks. The field position is also a major factor. Special teams and turnovers could have a big impact.
