Mink Mark Andrews only has two receptions of seven yards from four targets in the first two weeks. This is especially surprising, considering Isaiah Likely’s foot injury has kept him out of the game. Andrews now has a higher snap share (78%) than Isaiah Likely.
But I don’t believe there is any reason to be concerned. Andrews is going to make a lot of big catches this season for the Ravens. He still looks like MAndrews. It’s just that the ball hasn’t been coming to him as much yet.
The Ravens’ offense is great. Baltimore has scored 80 points in just two games. It’s not as if this was a “problem.” Every player wants to have an impact but they must also be selfless. Andrews puts the team first and is happy that the offense is doing well. Andrews is also doing an excellent job blocking, which has become more important since fullback Patrick Ricard’s (calf injury) absence.
We all knew that due to the Ravens’ depth of players, some players would not see as much play in certain weeks. Zay Flowers has had 20 targets, and has received most of the passing game. Rashod bateman is the only player with more than five targets. Flowers is likely to be the most popular option for many weeks, but targets may fluctuate.
Andrews had a similar slow start to the season last year, racking up six catches and 65 yards, but no touchdowns in his first four games. Andrews finished the season with 673 receiving yard and the most touchdowns of any tight-end in the league (11).
Baltimore’s offensive strategy has changed since Andrews was the main receiver. Flowers, Bateman and DeAndre Hopkins are now the top wide receivers. He is still an important part of the Ravens offensive identity, and Lamar Jackson counts him as one of his most trusted targets in the red zones. Andrews is determined to make the most of every opportunity that comes his way. He was not pleased that a touchdown reception against the Browns had been punched from his hands. Andrews is the most motivated and serious player in his field. He will make many plays this year.
