Late for Work: Ravens Deemed Trade Deadline Winners

Ravens Deemed Trade Deadline Winners Despite Standing Pat on Deadline Day

On trade deadline day, the only Baltimore professional sports team to make a deal was the Orioles who reunited with reliever Andrew Kittredge through a trade with Chicago Cubs.

The Ravens didn’t make as much of a splash as some other teams, but ESPN’s Ben Solak listed the Ravens among the trade deadline winners. ESPN’s Ben Solak ranked the Ravens as one of the top trade deadline winners, despite the fact that Baltimore did not make as much noise as other teams.

Solak said that the trade last month, where the Ravens received safety Alohi Gillman and a pick in the 2026 fifth round from the Los Angeles Chargers, in exchange for linebacker Odafe Oweh, and a pick in the 2027 seventh round, paid immediate dividends for Baltimore.

Solak wrote: “Since week 6, when Gilman joined the Ravens’ starting lineup, the Ravens have been second in points per game allowed, seventh in EPA for each play and ninth in success rates.” Gilman has been solid. Gilman forced a turnover and recovered another one against the Dolphins on Thursday. But his greatest contribution has been to unleash Kyle Hamilton.”

Hamilton can now play nearer the line of scrimmage where he excels.

According to NFL Next Gen Stats, Hamilton played safety for over 70% of the snaps he took before the Gilman deal. Solak wrote that Hamilton was playing off the line-of-scrimmage, in the middle and outside of the field. Hamilton has returned to his natural position after the Gilman deal. In three weeks, he has only lined up in the safety position six times (3.4%). On 56.9% snaps, he was in the box. Another 36.2% were taken at the slot corner.

Hamilton is the ultimate Swiss Army Knife. He can play as an outside linebacker on first down, a slot corner in second down, and a blitzer in the A gap on third down, all while Gilman, and Malaki Starks, the rookie safety, are occupying the defensive backfield.
