Lamar Jackson’s Growth in vs. Blitz is Tested Against Vikings

Jackson will face Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores for the first time since 2021 when he coached the Dolphins. Flores’ blitzes helped the Dolphins defeat the Ravens 22-10 in November that same year. Baltimore scored only 10 points that season. Jackson was sacked 4 times and Baltimore’s offensive was rendered ineffective.

The Ravens developed their blitz answers over the past four years. What transpired in the four-year battle with Flores was part of that process.

John Harbaugh, the Head Coach of the team, said: “We remember that game.” It was definitely a pivotal game for the evolution of our offense.

“They still do some of these blitzes but they are much more advanced now. You must be ready for anything. We have the offensive tools to make that happen. Lamar has been doing a great job with this for quite some time, but we will have to be very focused.”

Jackson will have to play a cat-and mouse game, trying to predict when the Vikings will blitz and where pressure will come from. He will also need to know where they will be vulnerable. It will be more difficult for the Ravens offense to communicate after breaking the huddle at U.S. Bank Stadium due to the intense noise of the crowd.

Ravens players are becoming accustomed to the Vikings signature Gjallarhorn noise at practice.

Harbaugh stated that “at home, they play to the fact that [opposing] offensives will have difficulty communicating. They try and make the opponent’s offense look bad and disorient them.” “We will work hard to prevent that from happening.”
