There is a consensus that there are only four elite quarterbacks left in the NFL: Lamar Jackson. Josh Allen. Joe Burrow. Patrick Mahomes. They are ranked differently by different pundits.
Steven Ruiz of The Ringer ranked Jackson No. 1 in his quarterback rankings. But, Ruiz’s praise for Jackson didn’t end there. Jackson was ranked No. 1 by Steven Ruiz in his quarterback rankings. But his praise didn’t stop there.
“Lamar Jackson, the greatest football player in the world,” wrote Ruiz. Ruiz wrote, “There is no one better at playing the sport.” At this point in his career, Jackson’s role in the Ravens run game feels almost superfluous. Jackson would be among the top five quarterbacks of the NFL even if he didn’t make another attempt to rush. He has become one of the NFL’s most gifted quarterbacks.
Nobody is better at layering the pass over a linebacker’s outstretched arm. Don’t be fooled by his seemingly effortless throwing motion — Jackson is able to throw the ball anywhere on the field. Jackson doesn’t require a platform to throw the ball, but he scrambles so fast that opposing pass rushers are terrified of Jackson escaping the pocket. Jackson will have extra space and time in the pocket as long as this is the case. But I don’t think he really needs it. Jackson is the NFL’s most efficient player when under pressure.”
NFL.com’s Nick Shook revealed his own quarterback rankings. He ranked Jackson No. Jackson was ranked No. 2 behind Mahomes.
Shook wrote: “Lamar Jackson, with all due respect for Josh Allen, should have won his third NFL’s MVP last season.” In every significant statistical category, he outperformed the 2023 season (his second MVP-winning year) Jackson is the one-man show and linchpin for the NFL’s most productive offense. This unit will return 10 starters to the field in 2025. He has answered those who doubted his passing ability and should be considered a MVP candidate annually until proven otherwise.
Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer surveyed 88 NFL Insiders, including 16 head coaches and 18 general managers, to find out who they thought would be the five best quarterbacks in the league at the season’s end.
Jackson was ranked No. Jackson was No. 4 for the second consecutive year despite having had one of the most successful seasons for a quarterback ever in 2024. He received nine votes for first place. Jackson was not ranked in the top five by one member of panel, which is absurd.
Breer wrote that “evaluators have found it difficult to categorize Jackson accurately in the last few years.” He’s been ranked third, eighth, seventh, and fourth in the last five polls. In that time, he has received a combined of 3 first-place votes.
Mahomes ranked first in the poll, followed by Allen and Burrow. Allen, Burrow and Mahomes were all ranked No.
Manti Te’o and Dianna Russini of “Good Morning Football” both chose Jackson as his third MVP for this season.
