Joe Burrow returned after a 9-week absence but Lamar Jackson looked rusty in Baltimore on Thanksgiving Night.
Jackson, despite facing the NFL’s statistically weakest defense, had one of the toughest games he has ever played in the Ravens’ 32-14 loss against the Cincinnati Bengals at M&T Bank Stadium on Thanksgiving.
Jackson was intercepted one time, fumbled two times, and missed several throws. This was the first time he had turned the ball over in four years.
Jackson couldn’t explain his performance after the game.
Jackson said, “I have to be consistent.” I cannot have any turnovers in this game or any other game.
Jackson’s struggles weren’t all the Ravens offensive mistakes. Overall, they had five turnovers – their first since 2013. Isaiah Likely fumbled at the goal line. Zay Flowers had a touchdown ruled out for offensive pass interference after he fumbled.
Jackson, a two time MVP, has played some of the best games he’s ever played against the Bengals as well as on primetime at M&T Bank Stadium.
Both of his fumbles were the result of bad luck. The first one happened when his arm was struck from behind while he was trying to escape a bag. One fell from his hand when he attempted to pull back an errant throw. The ball was batted at the line-of-scrimmage and a defender was right in front of him.
Jackson called them “weird fumbles”. “But we must hold on to the ball. “I’m not talking about anyone else – it’s about me.” [I must] hold on to the ball and make throws. I feel as if I missed some throws. It was… I didn’t miss them. It must be consistent.”
