Derrick Henry’s 2-yard touchdown gave the Ravens a 2 score lead in the fourth quarter of Sunday. M&T Bank Stadium erupted.
Henry had been unstoppable all night for the New England Patriots, and it looked like they would be in for an incredibly heavy dose at the end.
Henry did not see the field again after that.
Henry’s absence during the Ravens ensuing drive when they were trying answer a Patriots touchdown was one of biggest questions that came out of “Sunday Night Football”‘s 28-24 loss by the Ravens to the New England Patriots.
Keaton Mitchel was used instead of Henry for the entire drive.
John Harbaugh, Head Coach of the Oakland Raiders, said: “I didn’t like this drive at all.” Would I have preferred to have Derrick start the drive, looking back? Yes. Derrick was ready for Keaton’s drive to begin. Then he planned to come in next. They were doing that rotation.”
The Ravens, who were leading by three points and had just nine minutes remaining, gave Mitchell two carries. The first carried Mitchell for four yards, and the second stopped him for no gain.
Mitchell’s downhill style has been an excellent change of pace for Henry in the second half of this season. However, he was not as effective as Henry against the Patriots on this particular night. Henry had 18 carries, a total of 128 yards and 2 touchdowns. Mitchell only had 9 rushes.
Henry was not surprised to find himself out of the game when the drive began.
“We have been rotating for, I don’t even know how many months.” Henry stated that Keaton was doing an excellent job with the run game. “We are both doing our best,” Henry added. Keaton deserves the opportunity to play. We have many good players.
