Jim Schwartz: Five things to know

He studied under some of football’s greatest names.

Schwartz started his career in the NFL as a college/pro Scout for the Cleveland Browns from 1993-1995.

In Cleveland, he was able to see two of the most famous coaches in history: Bill Belichick & Nick Saban.

Schwartz told ESPN in 2014 that he earned a Ph.D. from Bill Belichick in football-ology. “That’s what’s guided my career most, the time I spent in Cleveland with him.”

Schwartz worked alongside Ravens executive vice president Ozzie Newsome in Cleveland. Newsome was at the time assistant to the head-coach/offense/pro staff before he was promoted to Director Player Personnel. Newsome stated that Schwartz’s skills were a perfect fit for his ambiguous role.

Newsome told the Akron Beacon Journal that Schwartz was a multitasker. “He was also very, very good in terms of detail.”
