Grades and Snap Counts: Newcomers thrust into Starting Roles

The Ravens, who are now 1-4 after Sunday’s 44-10 loss against the Texans, are searching for answers.

John Harbaugh, the head coach of the team, said: “It was a total disappointment.” “We have to figure out how to change it and find our identity this week, and then we’re into the break.”

The Ravens, weakened by injuries, were without seven Pro Bowlers from last year’s season when they faced the Texans. These players included quarterback Lamar Jackson; left tackle Ronnie Stanley; safety Kyle Hamilton; linebacker Roquan, Smith and Humphrey cornerbacks, fullback Patrick Ricard and defensive lineman Nnamdi Madubuike who was out of the game for the entire year. Baltimore also was without its starting cornerback Chidobe awuzie.

Five rookies were put on the field to play defense because so many players were out. The Texans took full advantage of this inexperience. Houston scored in its first eight possessions. They outgained Ravens 417-207.

The average snap percentage for the Ravens’ seven defensive rookies is 63.5%.

This is what the Ravens snap counts and Pro Football Focus grade looked like during Week 5.
