McDaniel was a master of offensive play calling for the Miami Dolphins in his three years as head coach. His scheme was complex and hard to defend.

In 2023, after ranking sixth in offensive efficiency in 2022 the Dolphins ranked first overall. In 2023, the Dolphins ranked No. 1 in both total offense and pass offense. In 2023, wide receiver Tyreek hill and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa had their career years. The Dolphins also made the playoffs during McDaniels first two seasons. McDaniel, 42, would have the chance to maximize Lamar Jackson’s, Derrick Henry’s, Zamar Flowers and other team weapons by coaching the Ravens.

McDaniel, who is an offensive innovator, spent a season as the offensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers under Kyle Shanahan.

McDaniel served on the Washington Commanders’ coaching staff in 2011-2012 along with Sean McVay and Matt LeFleur. Shanahan was also on that team. The three coaches are all head coaches and, together with McDaniel are considered to be among the most imaginative play-callers in the league.
