Eric DeCosta reportedly ‘Calling around’ for defensive help

Ian Rapoport says Eric DeCosta has been ‘calling around the league for defensive help’

The debate continues over whether the Ravens (1-5) should be sellers or buyers before the deadline of Nov. 4, but NFL Insider Ian Rapoport has indicated that Baltimore is “buyers”.

Rapoport reported that the Ravens had been looking for defensive help from around the league, which is understandable given Eric DeCosta’s trading-happy ways as well as their laundry list injuries.

DeCosta made a trade two weeks ago, trading safety Alohi Gillman for outside linebacker Odafe Oweh with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Gilman had an immediate impact on his Ravens debut during Week 6. Gilman played 83% defensive snaps, had the highest grade for the Ravens’ tackling (83.3), and the second-highest grade for the run defense (75.8). The Ravens were able to hold the Los Angeles Rams offensive explosion to just 17 points and 241 yards.

Outside linebackers and interior defensive lines are the Ravens’ most pressing needs.

Three-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons is not available for the Tennessee Titans. Head Coach Brian Callahan was fired last week.

Rapoport reported that “Sources explain that multiple teams called in order to gauge the availability” of Simmons, who is one of the best players in his position within the league. This was in the days and hours following the Titans’ owner Amy Adams Strunk’s decision to fire Callahan. Sources say that those interested were informed clearly that Simmons was not available.

Rapoport stated that outside linebacker Arden key and edge Dre’Mont Jones are two Titans defenders who have attracted interest. Rapoport also said that Miami Dolphins edge-rushers Bradley Chubb and Jael Phillips and former Raven Matt Judon could be available for trade, as well as New York Jets pass-rusher Jermaine Jones II.
