Jones will benefit from familiarity with Ravens defensive schemes. Jones played in Tennessee for Dennard Wilson who was a Ravens defensive backs’ coach from 2023. Jones will play for the Seattle Seahawks in 2024 under Head Coach Mike Macdonald. Macdonald was Baltimore’s defense coordinator for two years (2022-23).
Jones is familiar with Ravens’ systems despite not having played for them. He has 35 career sacks. John Harbaugh, the Ravens’ head coach, said that Jones would be put into the fire right away when the Ravens play the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday in Week 10. Baltimore has 11 sacks and is tied with the Jacksonville Jaguars for 29 th place in the NFL.
Harbaugh stated, “I believe he can be a great help. We’re very happy about it.” “He is a great fit for us. He’s used the same system for the past three years. He learns quickly. He has a great style of playing. “We will weave him into the team right away, and he’ll play on Sunday.”
Since trading Odafe Oweh last month to the Los Angeles Chargers, the Ravens were shorthanded on outside linebacker. Tavius Robinson is injured and on the reserve list. This leaves Kyle Van Noy (foot), Mike Green, David Ojabo, and Trenton Simpson to shoulder a lot of the load.
Jones’ presence and experience in the linebacker area is welcome. Jones, 28, has experience as both an outside linebacker (outside) and defensive tackle. The Ravens will use his versatility in this position.
Green explained that “Dre” comes with a completely different set of tools. It’s going be very beneficial for the defensive lines and the entire defense. He is a fantastic pass rusher. He is a great run-stopper. He is a dual-threat because he’s capable of both speed and power rushes. It’s very helpful for defense to have a player who can do both.
