After Dillon Gabriel was forced to leave the game due to a concussion, Sanders got his chance to play for Cleveland. He opened the second half. Many had been looking forward to seeing Sanders play, and when he came on, the crowd gave him an ovation.
Sanders was not the only one waiting. The Ravens defense also awaited him. Hamilton sacked him on a blitz during his first possession. Sanders then airmailed a ball that was intercepted by Nat Wiggins on Cleveland’s subsequent possession.
On the next play, linebacker Carson Schwesinger picked up Lamar Jackson and returned the ball to Sanders. The Ravens continued to pursue Sanders as if he had stolen from them. Keyon Martin, a rookie cornerback, sacked Sanders in a blitz. It was obvious that the Ravens would win if they could take the lead.
Baltimore’s defence has been outstanding during its four-game winning streak. Chidobe AWuzie, a veteran cornerback, who played an important role in the game while Pro Bowl cornerback Marlon HUmphrey was sidelined with a finger injury, had a big pass breakup when Cleveland threatened scoring on its final drive. Roquan Smith, a Pro Bowl linebacker, then broke up a pass to seal the game.
Cleveland’s pass rush ruined Baltimore’s passing game. Jackson was 14 of 25 for 193 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions. Myles Garrett, an All-Pro defensive lineman, was brilliant in sacking Jackson 4 times. However, Baltimore’s defense held strong.
John Harbaugh, Head Coach of the Oakland Raiders, said: “The pass rush in particular was amazing. “We didn’t let them breathe.”
