Clifton Brown’s Five Thoughts about the Ravens being on the brink of elimination

Derrick Henry’s absence from a critical fourth-quarter drive is going to haunt them.

Henry’s game was a big one (18 carries for 128 yards and two touchdowns), but it was wasted by the loss.

Baltimore led 24-13 after his final 2-yard touchdown with 12:53 remaining.

The Ravens took over possession of the ball with nine minutes remaining after the Patriots responded with a touchdown drive, making the score 24-21. Keaton Mitchel rode with Henry for this series, while Henry watched on the sidelines. Mitchell (nine carry, 13 yard) had two carries of four yards on that drive. However, the Ravens stopped after a first down, forcing them to punt. This set up New England’s winning drive.

John Harbaugh, the head coach, was asked whether, looking back, he’d have preferred Henry to be in that game during that crucial series.

Would I have preferred Derrick to start the drive, looking back? Harbaugh replied, “Yes.” You can easily say that he should have played, but we rotated those players throughout the game. Do I want Derrick Henry to be on the field for [the] game winning drive? “Yes, I want him to be on the field.”

Mitchell’s explosiveness is something the Ravens are fond of, but finding touches that work for both Henry and Mitchell can be a challenge. Henry’s ability to finish games is a big part of his greatness. He missed the chance to throw the punch that would have knocked the Patriots out.
