On Thanksgiving, the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals will face off. The Ravens are looking to keep their lead in the AFC North, while the Bengals will be hoping to salvage their season with Joe Burrow returning. Baltimore Beatdown staff make bold predictions about the divisional showdown.
Most people are predicting an all-out shootout on Thanksgiving in Baltimore. I will go against the crowd and predict a low-scoring game. The Bengals’ lowest-ranked defense could provide a good game for the Ravens offense. But can they do it in a week? Baltimore’s defence will deal with Joe Burrow’s comeback smoothly, but they will break their turnover streak. The special teams will continue to be successful with their punting and kicking, but the return units will not. LaJontay will score with his long punt-return, but the Ravens’ average field position prevents them from scoring many points. Ja’Marr will return from suspension with a vengeance, and Burrow will feed him targets. Chase’s influence will diminish as the game progresses until a fourth-quarter touchdown forces Jackson into scoring on his final drive. Since their turnaround, the Ravens have been able to get by with a good defense and allowing an offense that is struggling to figure out what they are doing each game. This won’t be the case this week. The Bengals’ offense, whether it’s Joe Flacco of Joe Burrow is a high flying machine that will be the first obstacle for the Ravens’ newly imagined defense. Burrow will continue to throw the ball all night while Ja’Marr chase continues to terrorize Ravens, as he always has. The Bengals also run Chase Brown around the field. Ravens defense has struggled with the run game, and teams often abandon it when they play them. Brown, who runs for more than 150 yards in the Bengals’ game and dominates it, is the only team that doesn’t.
While we are used to a shootout, the Ravens offense is still struggling despite having the worst defense in NFL. Lamar Jackson is still a little off, as he can’t seem to will his offense forward. Derrick Henry’s run game is unable to get going again. The Ravens lost 27-17 and will have a 10-day rest to try to reinvent the team. – Zach Canter
The Ravens have finally figured out how to play offensively in the face of the worst defense in the league. The Ravens are on short rest, and have been in a two game offensive slump. However, an advantaged matchup at home and a high-stakes environment will work to their benefit. Derrick Henry puts in a 100-yard effort, and Lamar Jackson scores multiple touchdowns — including Zay Flowers’s for the second time in this season. Joe Burrow’s Bengals offense will score points, putting Baltimore’s defense to the test. A second forced turnover by the Ravens could help them win the turnover war. The Ravens-Bengals matchup on Thursday will be low-scoring for most of the game, in stark contrast to the recent games between these teams. Joe Burrow, who is starting for the first time since Week 2 and Lamar Jackson are both clearly injured at the moment, will not be able to replicate the high scoring spectacles that they produced against each other in the past season. Both Derrick Henry, and Chase Brown will rely on the run game to get them into the endzone.
Baltimore’s defence limits Ja’Marr chase on the night, and they continue their turnover streak by intercepting Burrow in his return from injury. Mike Green scores two sacks in the first half and throughout the entire game to show that he is now a real player. Ravens win by 23-17. – Dustin Cox
