Baltimore Ravens snap count analysis, week 18: Kyle Hamilton’s injury was a major factor in the final defeat

In their final loss of the season to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Ravens offense played 51 snaps. Lamar Jackson, offensive tackles Rosie Stanley, Roger Rosengarten and Tyler Lindbaum, all played through the game on his return under center.

Both guards were injured in the game at different times. Emery Jones Jr. replaced Daniel Faalele after he briefly left the game. Faalele had played 48 snaps, while Andrew Vorhees had played 39. Jones took over at left guard after Vorhees was injured and finished the game with 15 snaps.

Zay Flowers, a wide receiver who played 50 snaps in the game, was only spelled once. He had 138 yards, two touchdowns catches in the fourth quarter and both were 50+ yard catches. Devontez Walker was a key player in Rashod bateman’s absence. He played 37 plays (73%), and caught a touchdown of 38 yards on the first drive. Deandre Hopkins only played 13 snaps (25%)

Derrick Henry dominated the running back snaps once again. He played on 36 plays, rushing 20 times for 126 yard. In the second half he only had 14 rushing yardage on five carries. Rasheen Ali, Keaton Mitchell and the combined total of 15 snaps was only achieved by them. Pat Ricard, the fullback, received 26 snaps.

Mark Andrews had 30, Isaiah Likely 25, and Charlie Kolar with 13 snaps. Kolar’s time on the field dropped dramatically from the previous week, when the Ravens ran 40+ times. Likely’s 26 yard, fourth-down catch on the last drive was one of his best plays in his career — no matter what happened right after.

The Ravens played 75 snaps on defense. Roquan was the only Ravens defender who played 100%. Trenton Simpson, Trenton’s fellow starter linebacker, played 49 snaps (65%), and had nine tackles. This was tied with the most tackles on the team. Smith only had three total tackles.

Kyle Hamilton’s injury to his concussion early in the third period was the biggest defensive development. Hamilton didn’t return to the game after 39 snaps, and the Ravens defense suffered his absence. As usual, the Ravens’ defensive backs Alohia Gilman (72 snapped) and Malaki Stanks (67 snapped) played a lot. Ar’Darius Washington played the majority of his 17 snaps (23%), after Hamilton left.

Nate Wiggins (66 snappes) and Chidobe Adwuzie (45) followed Marlon Humphrey in the cornerback position. Wiggins also suffered an injury in the game, but returned to play after missing a few plays. He had multiple pass breaks in man coverage. T.J. Tampa took a few snaps as he was relieved. Late in the game, the Ravens’ secondary struggled to stop passing plays.

As per usual, Travis Jones led the defensive linemen in snaps played with 64. John Jenkins was a regular player (40 snaps), and Brent Urban played 21 snaps (28%). Jenkins and Urban both had three tackles each and made some good plays against the running game. Jones had five tackles and one sack. He also made a quarterback’s hit.

Edge rusher Tavius robinson saw his workload increase with 55 snaps, leading the group. Robinson also had six tackles, and a sack. Mike Green (44 Snaps) and Dre’Mont Jones (43) had almost identical playing times, while Kyle Van Noy was the fourth edge rusher. Overall, the Ravens only managed to record two sacks.
