Around the AFC North, Ravens’ rivals suffer losses and injuries in week 8

Zac Taylor: Cincinnati Bengals wants defensive leaders to step up

Zac Taylor, the Bengals’ head coach, called the Bengals’ 39-point loss to the New York Jets (1-7), who had previously been winless, “humbling”.

After last season, Cincinnati replaced Lou Anarumo as defensive coordinator with Al Golden. Taylor wants the defensive leaders of the team to step up. The defense continues to struggle.

Taylor told ESPN.com that someone should step up to lead the group. “That’s exactly what I am waiting for — someone who will step up to lead the group, take responsibility and get things moving in the right direction.”

Trey Hendrickson, the Bengals’ star pass rusher, left the Jets match after aggravating a hip injury. There was no timetable for Hendrickson’s return.

Joe Flacco, a Bengals quarterback, had a strong performance for his team. He threw for 223 yard and two touchdowns without any interceptions. Cincinnati was unable to hold onto a 15 point lead in the fourth quarter. Former Raven safety Geno Stone, who is now with the Bengals, called for defensive accountability.

Stone stated, “I am the oldest man in [the defensive back] room. I will take on this role and ensure we are all okay in the backend.” Stone said, “But as a team, we have to play better.”
